Soft Paws Salon was started when we lost our oldest pet Jon Paul a 14yr old Maltese, who we lost to heart failure April 4th 2001. It was a way for my husband and myself to work through the grieving process.

HOW WE FOUND OUR GROOMER

We were looking for a groomer for two long coated Maltese who were more our children than pets. We searched for someone we knew we could trust with our "kids". We found that groomer in Cheryl Dunn. That relationship has continued and grown over the next ten years to present.

After the first grooming of our babies, Cheryl came from her grooming room and said, "Did you know that Jon Paul sings to you?" "And Ashley sits on her butt and begs?" Well… my heart was in my mouth, as Jon Paul only did this "singing" when he was happy and liked someone. I knew then that this was the groomer for my babies and it was for 10yrs.

Cheryl is more than a groomer for her dogs, she is the caregiver, watchdog and medical alert person. When Jon Paul was so sick and having to have IV's everyday at the veterinarian's, she made sure his IV's were running at all times even when she was in the grooming room. When she became concerned about him she moved him into her grooming room so she could personally monitor them and have them adjusted when needed.

When the battle was over she was there again to hold Jon Paul, as I could not.

The name for the salon was picked because whenever Jon Paul came back from being groomed by Cheryl I always said, "you have such soft paws". He was so soft and silky from being groomed. We thought this was a good name for our new salon. The three toes on the logo was from his back foot which only had 3 pads. Ashley, our twelve year old, will be here to greet you at the front door from her perch at the desk.
